Iran is going to increase its pharmaceutical export by three times over the next three years, said the director of the Food and Drug Administration, Rasoul Dinarvand.
Currently, less than $200 million worth of pharmaceutical products is exported per annum, while $1.25 billion of such products is imported, IRNA news agency quoted Dinarvand as saying.
“We endeavor to expand our pharmaceutical export to $500 million,” he said.
In the post-sanction era, the soaring prices of the imported medications will be slashed as well, he explained.
Owing to the banking sanctions there are numerous pharmaceutical companies who are creditors to the other countries worldwide, he noted.
As the banking sanctions are lifted, it would help revive the export of pharmaceuticals as cross-border transactions are now much easier.
Compared to the last year the drugs prices have decreased by 5 percent, Dinarvand added.
“By 2025, we expect drug exports to outweigh imports,” he suggested.
