Avantor and BlueWhale Bio Partner to Advance CAR-T Manufacturing with Innovative Cell Activation and Expansion Technology
Thursday, October 16, 2025
Avantor has entered into a strategic partnership with BlueWhale Bio.
The collaboration aims to overcome key challenges in CAR-T production, including variability, high costs, and lengthy processing times.
The partnership integrates Avantor’s bioprocessing and custom reagent manufacturing expertise with BlueWhale Bio’s Synecta™ cell-derived nanoparticle (CDNP) platform, which replicates natural T-cell stimulation. This combined approach is designed to scale up CDNP manufacturing and enable CAR-T developers to shorten cell expansion timelines, thereby improving patient access and overall manufacturing efficiency in the growing cell therapy field.
As part of the collaboration, the companies will jointly produce GMP-grade CDNP materials to support advanced CAR-T manufacturing. Preclinical and clinical data from BlueWhale Bio indicate that the Synecta™ T1 CDNPs enable earlier cell division, higher yields, and reduced process interventions. These results suggest the potential to accelerate CAR-T production cycles and minimise cell stress during manufacturing.
The initiative highlights Avantor’s ongoing commitment to supporting next-generation therapies through scalable and reliable biomanufacturing solutions.
