BeiGene and CSPC Pharmaceutical Enter into Agreement for MAT2A Inhibitor SYH2039

Friday, December 13, 2024

BeiGene has entered into a licensing agreement with CSPC Zhongqi Pharmaceutical.

The agreement grants BeiGene global rights to SYH2039, a methionine adenosyltransferase 2A (MAT2A) inhibitor under development for treating solid tumours.

SYH2039 targets tumours with the MTAP deletion mutation, present in approximately 15 per cent of all cancer types, including glioblastoma, pancreatic cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer. The acquisition aligns with BeiGene’s efforts to strengthen its portfolio in solid tumour treatments.

The company plans to explore the potential of SYH2039, particularly in combination with its internally developed PRMT5 inhibitor, BGB-58067.

BGB-58067, expected to begin clinical trials later this year, is designed to minimise the haematological side effects seen in earlier PRMT5 inhibitors. It is noted for its high potency, selectivity, and brain penetrability, with the potential to offer best-in-class outcomes.

Under the terms of the agreement, BeiGene will hold exclusive global rights to develop, manufacture, and commercialise SYH2039. CSPC will receive $150 million in upfront and time-based payments, with additional payments tied to developmental and commercial milestones, along with tiered royalties.

This move reflects BeiGene’s strategic focus on enhancing its solid tumour pipeline, which includes its PD-1 inhibitor TEVIMBRA® (tislelizumab) and other advanced therapeutic candidates targeting lung, breast, and gastrointestinal cancers. These include antibody-drug conjugates, multi-specific antibodies, targeted protein degraders, and small molecule inhibitors.

The planned rebranding to BeOne reinforces BeiGene’s mission to advance innovative cancer therapies globally and address unmet medical needs.
