Bio-Thera Solutions Enters into Agreement with Intas Pharmaceuticals for Golimumab Biosimilar
Tuesday, February 11, 2025
Bio-Thera Solutions has entered into an exclusive licensing and commercialisation agreement with Intas Pharmaceuticals for BAT2506, a proposed biosimilar of Simponi® (golimumab), in the United States.
BAT2506 is a golimumab biosimilar developed by Bio-Thera. Golimumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-a), a molecule involved in inflammation.
By binding to TNF-a, golimumab reduces levels of inflammatory markers, including C-reactive protein (CRP), Interleukin 6 (IL-6), and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF).
The reference medicine, golimumab, is approved in the United States and Europe for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and ulcerative colitis.
Under the terms of the agreement, Bio-Thera will oversee the development, manufacturing, and supply of BAT2506. Intas Pharmaceuticals, through its US-specialty division, Accord BioPharma, will be responsible for commercialising the product in the United States.
Bio-Thera will receive an upfront payment of $21 million, with additional payments of up to $143.5 million linked to development and commercial milestones.
The partnership is expected to strengthen Bio-Thera’s presence in the biosimilar market and expand its immunology portfolio in the United States.
It also supports Intas Pharmaceuticals’ strategy to enhance its biosimilar pipeline and increase its presence in the US pharmaceutical sector.
