Biogen and Neomorph Partner on Molecular Glue Degraders for Alzheimer’s and Rare Diseases

Wednesday, October 30, 2024

Biogen and Neomorph have entered into a research collaboration to advance the discovery and development of molecular glue degraders, focusing on critical targets in Alzheimer’s, rare neurological, and immunological diseases.

This collaboration will utilise Neomorph's proprietary platform to accelerate the identification and validation of novel small molecule degraders. Known for their potential to treat challenging targets, small molecule protein degraders offer a unique pharmacology distinct from traditional inhibitors.

By enabling targeted protein degradation, this partnership holds promise for advancing treatments in complex neurological and immunological diseases, as well as addressing unmet needs in rare diseases. The alliance will combine Neomorph’s expertise in protein degradation with Biogen’s established research and drug development capabilities.

Under the agreement, the companies will work together to identify, validate, and optimise molecular glue degraders for various high-priority disease targets.

Biogen will take forward promising clinical candidates for potential further development and commercialisation. Neomorph will receive an initial payment, with further milestone payments tied to project progress, spanning pre-clinical, clinical, regulatory, and commercial stages, with a total potential consideration of up to $1.45 billion.

Additionally, Biogen will cover some of Neomorph’s research and development expenses, and Neomorph may receive future royalties if products reach the market.
