BioMed X Launches New Immuno-Oncology Research Team with Ono Pharmaceutical

Wednesday, September 18, 2024

BioMed X has launched a new research team at its facility in Heidelberg.

The focus of the project is to explore the role of neutrophils in cancer, with the aim of developing new immunotherapies.

This marks the institute’s first collaboration with Ono Pharmaceutical, a Japanese company.

While the presence of neutrophils in solid tumours has been widely studied, their function in the tumour microenvironment remains unclear.

Unlike T cells, which are well-understood in the context of immunotherapy, neutrophils have shown potential antitumor activity, but their biology is not yet fully understood.

This new research aims to deepen the understanding of neutrophils and develop a broader range of cancer treatments.

The research team will work alongside nine other groups at BioMed X’s Heidelberg facility.

In addition to its teams in Germany, BioMed X operates two international research groups: one at its institute in New Haven, Connecticut, and another at XSeed Labs, an innovation accelerator based on the campus of Boehringer Ingelheim in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
