CAS and Cleveland Clinic Partner to Advance Research Using AI and Quantum Computing
Tuesday, April 08, 2025
CAS has announced a strategic partnership with Cleveland Clinic.
The collaboration aims to combine the strengths of both organisations to support clinical research, with a particular focus on brain health and healthy ageing.
The announcement was made during the Cleveland Discovery & Innovation Forum, an event that showcases advancements in healthcare and life sciences. The first stage of the partnership will centre on drug discovery for brain-related conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, an area with few effective treatment options due to its complex nature.
The initiative will draw on the CAS Content Collection™, a large and curated database of scientific knowledge. By applying advanced AI models and quantum computing technologies, the collaboration will support the creation of disease-specific models. The first of these will focus on Alzheimer’s, with the aim of improving prevention, prediction, and eventually translating the findings to other chronic illnesses.
Cleveland Clinic, through its partnership with IBM, is home to IBM Quantum System One the first quantum computer dedicated exclusively to healthcare research. This resource will play a key role in the new research projects.
The collaboration also aligns with the goals of the Cleveland Innovation District, which brings together the State of Ohio, JobsOhio, and leading healthcare and academic institutions to create new jobs, support research activities, and build a skilled workforce.
By combining CAS’s expertise in scientific data with Cleveland Clinic’s experience in biomedical research and clinical care, the initiative aims to improve long-term health outcomes and speed up the translation of research into real-world treatments.
