Chiesi Group Enters into Agreement with Aliada Therapeutics to Advance Blood-Brain Barrier-Crossing Technology for Lysosomal Storage Disorders

Thursday, November 13, 2025

Chiesi Group has entered into an exclusive licence agreement with Aliada Therapeutics to progress blood-brain barrier (BBB)-crossing platform technology aimed at treating lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs).

The collaboration seeks to address complex disease areas with significant unmet medical needs, particularly those involving cognitive and neurological symptoms.

Under the agreement, Chiesi Group receives a worldwide, exclusive, royalty-bearing licence to develop and commercialise specific enzyme replacement therapies utilising Aliada’s proprietary BBB-crossing platform. In return, Aliada will obtain an upfront payment and will be eligible for additional milestone payments based on development progress and future sales, along with tiered royalties. Chiesi will take responsibility for all research, development, and commercialisation activities globally.

The partnership builds upon a research collaboration that began in August 2023, which explored multiple enzyme cargoes modified with Aliada’s MODEL™ platform. This platform leverages natural brain endothelial cell transport mechanisms to enable large molecule therapeutics to cross the BBB efficiently.

Through this agreement, Chiesi aims to expand its work in rare diseases by developing therapies that target the neurological impact of lysosomal storage disorders, moving beyond symptom management to address the underlying causes.
