Editas Enters into Collaboration with Genevant to Develop Gene Editing Therapies

Tuesday, October 22, 2024

Editas Medicine and Genevant Sciences have entered into a collaboration and non-exclusive license agreement.

This partnership will combine Editas Medicine’s CRISPR Cas12a gene editing systems with Genevant’s lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology to develop in vivo gene editing therapies aimed at two undisclosed targets as part of Editas' upregulation strategy.

Editas has made significant progress in advancing its in vivo gene editing programmes and is working towards clinical development. The company identified Genevant as a key partner due to its expertise in LNP delivery systems, which are widely recognised as a preferred method for delivering gene editing constructs.

Under the agreement, Editas receives a non-exclusive global license to use Genevant’s LNP technology for the development of mRNA-CRISPR Cas12a-LNP products targeting the specified fields.

Genevant is eligible for up to $238 million in upfront and milestone payments, along with tiered royalties on future product sales.
