Evogene and Tel Aviv University Launch AI-Driven Small-Molecule Drug Discovery Initiative

Thursday, July 09, 2026

Evogene has entered into a strategic collaboration with the Blavatnik Center for Drug Discovery (BCDD) at Tel Aviv University to accelerate AI-driven small-molecule drug discovery.

The initiative, facilitated by Ramot, the university's technology transfer company, aims to help transform promising academic research into early-stage drug development programmes.

The collaboration will support researchers and scientific entrepreneurs working on novel disease targets by combining AI-powered computational chemistry with advanced experimental drug discovery capabilities. It is intended to address common challenges faced by academic projects, including limited access to integrated resources required for early drug discovery.

The partners will establish a Design-Make-Test-Analyse (DMTA) workflow to identify and develop promising projects from Israeli academic institutions and start-up ventures. Selected programmes will use Evogene's ChemPass AI™ platform to design and optimise small-molecule candidates, while BCDD will provide experimental validation, screening, and translational development support through its research infrastructure.

The initiative is expected to improve the efficiency of early-stage drug discovery, reduce development risks, and increase the potential for successful therapeutic candidates.

It also aims to strengthen the translation of academic discoveries into practical drug development programmes by combining biological research expertise with AI-enabled computational design and experimental validation.
