Innovent Enters into Collaboration with Eli Lilly for Jaypirca®
Monday, December 16, 2024
Innovent Biologics and Eli Lilly and Company have entered into a new agreement for the distribution and promotion of Jaypirca® (pirtobrutinib) in Mainland China.
Jaypirca® (pirtobrutinib, previously known as LOXO-305) is a highly selective, non-covalent BTK inhibitor. Preclinical studies show that it is approximately 300 times more selective for BTK than for other kinases. BTK is a validated molecular target in several B-cell malignancies, including MCL. Jaypirca® offers an innovative treatment approach for patients who have previously received BTK inhibitors.
This partnership builds on their existing collaboration, with Innovent assuming responsibility for the importation, marketing, distribution, and promotion of Jaypirca®, while Lilly remains focused on research and development (R&D) and post-market medical affairs.
Jaypirca® is a non-covalent (reversible) Bruton’s tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor designed to restore BTK pathway inhibition in patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) who have previously been treated with covalent BTK inhibitors.
It addresses a significant clinical need by offering a new therapeutic option for these patients. The drug received U.S. FDA approval in January 2023 and, in October 2024, was approved in China as monotherapy for adult patients with relapsed or refractory MCL who have undergone at least two systemic treatments, including a BTK inhibitor.
This collaboration aims to leverage Innovent’s commercial expertise and extensive market coverage alongside Lilly’s scientific and R&D capabilities. The combined efforts are expected to broaden access to innovative treatments and improve outcomes for cancer patients across Mainland China.
Innovent has developed a strong portfolio in haematological oncology, including treatments such as TYVYT® (sintilimab injection), HALPRYZA® (rituximab injection), olverembatinib, and FUCASO® (Equecabtagene Autoleucel Injection).
The addition of Jaypirca® strengthens its position in the field and aligns with efforts to make advanced therapies widely accessible.
Lilly continues to invest in global Phase 3 clinical trials, including in China, to explore the use of Jaypirca® as a monotherapy or in combination therapies for conditions such as chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), and BTK inhibitor-naïve relapsed or refractory MCL.
This collaboration underscores the shared commitment of Innovent and Lilly to advancing cancer treatments in China, contributing to improved patient care and supporting the broader goals of health initiatives like ‘Healthy China 2030.’
