Jazz Pharmaceuticals Enters into Agreement with Saniona for SAN2355
Thursday, August 21, 2025
Jazz Pharmaceuticals and Saniona have entered into a global licensing agreement that grants Jazz exclusive worldwide rights to develop and commercialise SAN2355.
SAN2355 is a selective small molecule activator of Kv7.2/Kv7.3 potassium channels, a mechanism already validated for seizure control. While previous Kv7-targeting agents have shown clinical benefit, their use has been restricted by side effects linked to off-target activity.
SAN2355 aims to overcome this challenge by selectively targeting the Kv7.2/Kv7.3 subtypes, allowing dosing at levels that maximise efficacy while minimising adverse events. This approach supports its potential as a best-in-class therapy for epilepsy.
The candidate is a subtype-selective Kv7.2/Kv7.3 activator currently in preclinical development for epilepsy and other neurological disorders. It has been designed to overcome the safety and efficacy limitations of non-selective Kv7-targeting compounds.
Under the agreement, Jazz will lead and finance all future development, regulatory submissions, and global commercialisation activities. Saniona will receive an upfront payment of US $42.5 million and is eligible for up to US $192.5 million in development and regulatory milestones, including a US $7.5 million payment at the start of the first Phase 1 clinical trial.
The company may also earn up to US $800 million in commercial milestone payments, along with tiered royalties ranging from mid-single digits to low-double digits on net sales.
