Kite to Acquire Interius BioTherapeutics to Advance In Vivo Platform
Friday, August 22, 2025
Kite, a Gilead company, has announced an agreement to acquire Interius BioTherapeutics for $350 million.
Interius is a biotechnology company focused on developing in vivo CAR therapies.
The deal will combine Kite’s expertise in cell therapy with Interius’s platform, which enables the generation of CAR T-cells directly inside a patient’s body. This method aims to offer longer-lasting therapeutic effects by inserting DNA into the genome, without the need for traditional processes such as cell harvesting, engineering, and reinfusion.
Interius’s approach is designed as an off-the-shelf yet personalised therapy that can be delivered through a single intravenous infusion. Unlike conventional CAR T therapies, it does not require preconditioning chemotherapy or complex cell processing, which could make treatment more accessible and scalable.
The platform’s modular structure allows for rapid adaptation across different diseases and manufacturing needs. This could help expand access to cell therapies, particularly for patients with advanced or rapidly progressing conditions.
As part of the agreement, Interius’s team and operations will join Kite’s research group, creating a centre of excellence in Philadelphia to advance the development of next-generation in vivo therapies.
