Korro Bio Enters into Collaboration with Novo Nordisk to Develop RNA-Based Therapies
Tuesday, September 17, 2024
Korro Bio has announced a collaboration with Novo Nordisk, a global healthcare company, to develop new genetic treatments.
The need for innovative approaches to treat cardiometabolic conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, remains critical. RNA editing has the potential to modify protein function, allowing for the development of treatments for previously untreatable conditions.
The partnership will initially focus on cardiometabolic diseases, combining Novo Nordisk’s expertise in this area with Korro’s proprietary RNA editing platform to create new therapies targeting two undisclosed conditions.
Korro’s platform, Oligonucleotide Promoted Editing of RNA (OPERA), aims to harness the body’s natural processes to make changes at the RNA level, without altering DNA, offering a pharmacologically adjustable approach to genetic medicine.
Korro is set to receive up to $530 million in payments through this agreement, including upfront, development, and commercial milestone payments, along with tiered royalties and research funding.
The company will take two programs through preclinical development, with Novo Nordisk potentially advancing them into clinical trials.
