Labcorp Partners with Roche to Strengthen Digital Pathology Capabilities

Wednesday, October 01, 2025

Labcorp has entered into a collaboration with Roche to expand its digital pathology offering through the use of Roche’s FDA-cleared VENTANA® DP 600 and DP 200 slide scanners.

The move is expected to improve diagnostic workflows and lay the groundwork for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in pathology.

The initiative is being introduced at a time when the United States is expected to face a shortage of nearly 5,700 pathologists by 2030, while demand for diagnostic services continues to increase due to ageing populations and the growing prevalence of cancer and other diseases.

Digital pathology technology allows glass slides to be converted into high-resolution digital images that can be viewed, analysed and shared across locations without the need for a microscope. This eliminates dependence on physical slides and enables greater collaboration between pathologists in different sites.

Key benefits include improved access to specialist expertise, more efficient workflows without the need to handle or transport slides, reduced costs and risks associated with physical storage, and the potential for AI-based tools to enhance consistency and accuracy.

The investment strengthens Labcorp’s existing relationship with Roche in digital pathology and supports both its Diagnostics and Biopharma Laboratory Services businesses. The company is already applying digital technology in global clinical trials, enabling faster data sharing, centralised review and quicker decision-making.
