Lonza Enters into Aggreement with Engitix to Advance ECM-Targeted ADC Development
Wednesday, July 22, 2026
Lonza and Engitix have entered into a licensing agreement to support the development of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) aimed at treating chronic diseases and cancer.
Under the agreement, Engitix will gain access to Lonza’s ADC technology platform through a single-target licence. The collaboration includes the use of Lonza’s SYNtecan E™ linker-payload technology, along with the complementary GlycoConnect® and HydraSpace® platforms. These technologies are expected to support Engitix in the development and future commercialisation of targeted therapies.
As part of the arrangement, Lonza, through one of its affiliated companies, will be eligible to receive upfront payments, development and regulatory milestones, commercial payments, and royalties on future product sales. Lonza will manufacture components linked to its proprietary technologies, while Engitix will lead research, development, manufacturing, and commercial activities for the ADC candidates.
Engitix has developed a proprietary human extracellular matrix (ECM) platform that enables the study of disease biology directly in human tissue. Unlike conventional approaches that mainly target cell surface proteins, Engitix’s platform focuses on disease-related targets within the ECM, creating opportunities for new therapeutic strategies.
The collaboration will combine Engitix’s ECM discovery capabilities with Lonza’s ADC technologies to develop targeted therapies designed to deliver potent payloads to tumour-selective ECM targets.
The agreement supports Engitix’s broader strategy of building a diversified pipeline of precision medicines for fibrosis, oncology and other diseases associated with abnormal tissue remodelling. The partnership is also expected to contribute to the advancement of next-generation ADCs with the potential to improve treatment efficacy while reducing unwanted side effects.
