Mabwell and Qilu Pharmaceutical Collaborate on Novel Injection for Chemotherapy-Induced Neutropenia
Monday, June 30, 2025
Mabwell has signed a licensing agreement with Qilu Pharmaceutical for the development and commercialisation of Albipagrastim alfa for Injection (R&D code: 8MW0511).
Albipagrastim alfa is a recombinant fusion protein, combining human serum albumin with granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), and is produced using a yeast-based expression system. The drug is intended to reduce the risk of infections, particularly febrile neutropenia, in adult patients undergoing chemotherapy for non-myeloid cancers.
The agreement was made through T-mab, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mabwell.
Under the terms of the deal, Qilu Pharmaceutical gains exclusive rights to develop, manufacture, and market the drug across Greater China, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. In return, Mabwell is eligible to receive up to RMB 500 million through an upfront payment and future sales-based milestones, along with royalties reaching a double-digit percentage of net sales.
This long-acting version of G-CSF has been developed using Mabwell’s proprietary albumin fusion platform. By fusing G-CSF with human serum albumin, the drug’s molecular weight is increased, slowing its elimination from the body and extending its half-life.
This reduces the frequency of injections required during treatment, potentially improving patient compliance.
