Massive Bio and Optellum Partner to Improve Clinical Trial Access for Early-Stage Lung Cancer Patients
Thursday, June 04, 2026
Massive Bio and Optellum have entered into a collaboration aimed at improving access to clinical trials for patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The partnership combines Optellum’s artificial intelligence (AI)-based lung cancer risk assessment technology with Massive Bio’s AI-driven clinical trial matching platform.
The integration links early lung cancer detection with clinical trial identification, helping clinicians consider suitable trial opportunities for high-risk patients at an earlier stage of care. The initiative is designed to support patients identified through routine imaging by connecting them with relevant clinical research programmes more quickly.
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Although early detection significantly improves survival rates, many patients identified as being at high risk do not gain access to clinical trials. The collaboration seeks to address this gap by improving the pathway between early detection and trial referral.
Under the agreement, Optellum’s Lung Cancer Prediction (LCP) AI analyses radiology reports and CT scan findings to identify patients at elevated risk of lung cancer before a formal diagnosis is confirmed. De-identified patient data is then processed through Massive Bio’s platform, which matches patient profiles with active NSCLC clinical trials available within their geographical region. The platform generates reports for treating physicians to support referral decisions.
The companies stated that the approach creates a streamlined and privacy-focused workflow that connects early detection with clinical trial opportunities while keeping patient review, referral and participation decisions under the control of healthcare providers and participating sites.
The collaboration is expected to support earlier identification of suitable trial candidates, improve patient access to investigational treatments and contribute to advancing lung cancer research.
