MaxCyte and TG Therapeutics Agreement to Develop Autoimmune Cell Therapy Treatment
Thursday, February 13, 2025
MaxCyte has signed a strategic platform license (SPL) agreement with TG Therapeutics.
MaxCyte’s ExPERT™ platform is designed for scalable and efficient cell engineering, offering high transfection efficiency and cell viability. It provides the performance necessary to support the advancement of next-generation biological and cellular therapies.
Under the agreement, TG Therapeutics gains non-exclusive research, clinical, and commercial rights to use MaxCyte’s Flow Electroporation® technology and ExPERT™ platform. In exchange, MaxCyte will receive annual licensing fees and revenue linked to specific programmes.
TG Therapeutics previously secured a global license from Precision BioSciences, Inc. for Azercabtagene Zapreleucel (azer-cel), an investigational allogeneic CD19 CAR T cell therapy intended for autoimmune diseases and other non-oncology conditions.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved an Investigational New Drug (IND) application for azer-cel in progressive forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), with a Phase 1 trial expected to begin in 2025.
MaxCyte’s technology supports the production of allogeneic T cell immunotherapies. It was successfully transferred from Precision BioSciences to TG Therapeutics when the latter acquired global rights for azer-cel in January 2024.
Through this new partnership, MaxCyte aims to further aid the development of azer-cel for autoimmune applications.
