Merck and Siemens Partner to Drive AI and Data-Led Drug Development
Wednesday, September 24, 2025
Merck has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Siemens to expand their strategic partnership.
The collaboration aims to accelerate digital transformation in the life sciences sector by integrating software, systems, and consumables that use automation, artificial intelligence, and data to connect drug discovery, development, and manufacturing.
The agreement is the first to use technology acquired by Siemens through its recent Dotmatics acquisition, completed in July 2025. As part of the initiative, Merck’s AI tools and digital applications will be made available through Luma, Siemens’ Dotmatics Scientific Intelligence Platform, creating a single environment that combines product ordering with access to digital tools and data-driven insights.
Initial pilot projects will focus on closing workflow gaps in drug discovery and biomanufacturing. Both companies plan to expand into joint projects that develop advanced data management solutions, user-friendly interfaces, and digital marketplaces, offering customers streamlined access to complementary technologies and services.
The partnership builds on earlier collaborations in smart manufacturing and reflects a shared goal of advancing innovation in life sciences.
By combining expertise in automation and digitalisation, Merck and Siemens aim to create a stronger digital backbone for the industry, helping researchers and manufacturers move therapies from the laboratory to patients more efficiently.
