MetaVia and Syntekabio Partner to Explore New Indications for DA-1241 Using AI Technology

Wednesday, August 06, 2025

MetaVia has announced a research partnership with Syntekabio to explore additional therapeutic uses for DA-1241, its investigational oral drug targeting G-Protein-Coupled Receptor 119 (GPR119).

DA-1241 is a novel oral GPR119 agonist with potential as a treatment for both MASH and type 2 diabetes (T2D), either as a standalone therapy or in combination with other drugs. GPR119 activation in the gut encourages the release of gut hormones such as GLP-1, GIP, and PYY, which help regulate blood sugar, lipid metabolism, and body weight.

This collaboration will use artificial intelligence (AI) to identify new disease targets and improve the drug’s therapeutic profile.

The agreement builds on promising results from MetaVia’s 16-week Phase 2a study involving 109 participants with presumed metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). The study showed that DA-1241 was well tolerated and demonstrated positive effects on liver health and blood glucose regulation.

Through this partnership, MetaVia aims to broaden the potential value of DA-1241 by using Syntekabio’s DeepMatcher® AI platform. This technology will screen more than 1,700 validated protein targets to identify other high-potential therapeutic areas for the drug. The goal is to ensure selectivity and minimise the chances of off-target effects, allowing for faster and more targeted drug development.

Initial findings from the AI-led collaboration are expected later this year.
