Nabla Bio Enters into Collaboration with Takeda to Advance AI-Based Protein Therapeutics Design

Wednesday, October 15, 2025

Nabla Bio has entered into a new multi-year research partnership with Takeda to enhance the design of protein therapeutics.

Under the agreement, Nabla Bio will receive payments in the double-digit millions as upfront and research funding, with the potential for success-based payments exceeding US$1 billion.

This collaboration marks the second partnership between the two companies and will utilise Nabla Bio’s proprietary biomolecular design platform, the Joint Atomic Model (JAM), to support Takeda’s early-stage development programmes. The initiative will focus on the de novo design of antibodies, multispecifics, and other complex therapeutics targeting multiple and challenging biological targets.

Building on the outcomes of their first collaboration launched in 2022, the new partnership aims to accelerate biologics discovery and development using AI-driven optimisation and laboratory testing. Nabla Bio’s JAM platform integrates generative AI with in vitro and in vivo validation, achieving high success rates in de novo design across various targets.

The technology has demonstrated the ability to generate highly specific binders for complex targets such as G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and to deliver functional antibodies and biologics with strong preclinical performance, including improved pharmacokinetic and safety profiles.

The collaboration underscores both companies’ continued focus on harnessing artificial intelligence to streamline biologics discovery and accelerate the creation of next-generation medicines.
