Numab Therapeutics and Kaken Pharmaceutical Collaborate on ND081 for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Saturday, November 16, 2024

Numab Therapeutics has partnered with Kaken Pharmaceutical to advance the development of ND081.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic condition causing inflammation in the digestive tract, primarily including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Symptoms like abdominal pain and diarrhoea impact quality of life. While the exact cause is unknown, treatment focuses on managing inflammation and symptoms.

This multi-specific antibody is being investigated as a potential first-in-class treatment for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

As part of the agreement, Kaken has secured an option to acquire commercial rights to ND081 in select Asian regions. In return, Kaken will fund preclinical and clinical development, up to Phase 2a proof-of-concept.

Numab will oversee these development activities and receive an upfront payment of approximately CHF 13 million.

The collaboration builds on a previous partnership between the two companies, which focused on the bi-specific antibody NM26 for atopic dermatitis.

This earlier collaboration culminated in the asset's acquisition by Johnson & Johnson in 2024, following its spin-out into Yellow Jersey Therapeutics.

This new partnership underscores both companies’ commitment to leveraging innovative multi-specific antibody platforms to address unmet medical needs in immunology.
