Nxera Pharma Begins Collaboration with Lilly to Develop Treatments for Metabolic Diseases

Monday, June 02, 2025

Nxera Pharma has reached a significant development milestone under its ongoing collaboration and licence agreement with Eli Lilly and Company, focused on diabetes and other metabolic diseases.

As a result, Nxera will receive a milestone payment, with the amount remaining undisclosed in line with the terms of the agreement. The company expects to receive the payment in the third quarter of the financial year ending December 2025.

The collaboration, which began in 2022, combines Nxera’s structure-based drug design expertise—particularly in targeting G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs)—with Lilly’s capabilities in drug development and commercialisation. The recent milestone highlights the successful application of Nxera’s NxWave™ platform in identifying small molecule binders to GPCR targets and determining their binding sites.

Following this achievement, Lilly will now take responsibility for further development and commercialisation of the candidate.

The agreement provides for potential development and commercial milestone payments to Nxera of up to US$694 million, in addition to tiered royalties on future global sales.

This milestone reflects steady progress in advancing new treatment options for metabolic diseases, an area with ongoing unmet medical needs.
