Ono and Jorna Therapeutics Partner to Develop Innovative RNA Editing Therapies
Monday, April 21, 2025
Ono Pharmaceutical has entered into a research collaboration with Jorna Therapeutics to develop next-generation RNA editing therapies.
Jorna’s RNA editing platform is built on innovative AI models that can accurately introduce edits to RNA targets previously considered challenging. By analysing interatomic interactions within proteins and small molecules, the AI is capable of designing precise protein sequences required for efficient and safe RNA editing.
The agreement, signed in December 2024, focuses on drug discovery using Jorna’s proprietary RNA editing platform.
Following the validation of the platform, Ono has started identifying promising nucleic acid sequences for potential drug development. Jorna will apply its advanced protein and RNA generative AI model—powered by SkyEngine, an artificial intelligence system grounded in quantum mechanics—to design RNA editing drug sequences.
The collaboration grants Ono exclusive global rights to discover, develop, and commercialise any drug candidates that emerge from this partnership. As part of the deal, Ono has provided an upfront payment and will fund ongoing research activities, along with making milestone payments based on research progress.
This partnership brings together Jorna’s expertise in AI-driven therapeutic design and Ono’s experience in drug development, aiming to accelerate the creation of novel treatments for diseases with significant unmet medical needs.
