Sandoz Launches Rivaroxaban in Germany, Broadening Affordable Antithrombotic Access

Thursday, August 28, 2025

Sandoz has introduced its generic version of rivaroxaban in Germany, making available new strengths of 10 mg, 15 mg and 20 mg under the brand Rivaroxaban – 1 A Pharma®.

Rivaroxaban – 1 A Pharma® is used in adults for stroke prevention in non-valvular atrial fibrillation, treatment and prevention of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, and prevention of venous thromboembolism after hip or knee replacement surgery. The medicine is also indicated for the treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism in children and adolescents.

The launch provides patients with a cost-effective alternative to the reference medicine Xarelto®, offering a clear price advantage across all three strengths.

The move follows successful patent litigation in Germany, where Sandoz was the first company to challenge the dosage patent. The revocation of this patent in July 2025 enabled the company to expand its rivaroxaban portfolio beyond the 2.5 mg strength, which had been available since April 2024.

With this development, Sandoz now offers the most extensive range of rivaroxaban film-coated tablets within Germany’s statutory health insurance market.

The company has also entered all open-house discount agreements for rivaroxaban, further strengthening affordability and access for patients and healthcare providers.
