Sartorius Stedim Biotech and Sensible Biotechnologies to Scale Up Cell-Based mRNA Manufacturing Platform

Thursday, July 10, 2025

Sartorius Stedim Biotech has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sensible Biotechnologies to support the scale-up and industrialisation of Sensible’s cell-based mRNA design and manufacturing platform.

The collaboration aims to enable the clinical-grade production of cell-based mRNA by 2026. It is expected to play a key role in advancing the next generation of mRNA medicines. The platform under development is designed to improve the quality, purity, and performance of mRNA, making it suitable for a wide range of therapeutic applications.

As part of the agreement, Sartorius Stedim Biotech has already contributed advanced equipment and consumables. The partnership will further involve process development, design of closed-system facilities, and technical support to help Sensible establish GMP-compliant manufacturing capabilities.

The initiative will initially focus on expanding production capacity in Slovakia, with plans to extend operations to the United States, the United Kingdom, and other European regions.

Both companies view this collaboration as a strategic step towards creating a more resilient and flexible biomanufacturing ecosystem.
The MoU also outlines opportunities for future collaboration to strengthen global mRNA manufacturing capabilities.
