Sciwind Biosciences Partners with Pfizer China to Commercialise its Biased GLP-1 in China

Wednesday, February 25, 2026

Hangzhou Sciwind Biosciences Co., Ltd. has entered into a strategic commercialisation agreement with Pfizer China for Ecnoglutide injection, a next-generation cAMP-biased GLP-1 receptor agonist.

Under the agreement, Pfizer China will receive exclusive rights to commercialise Ecnoglutide in Mainland China. Sciwind Biosciences will remain the Marketing Authorisation Holder and will continue to manage research and development, regulatory filings, manufacturing and supply. The company is eligible to receive up to $495 million in upfront payments, as well as regulatory and sales milestone payments.

Ecnoglutide was independently developed by Sciwind Biosciences. It is designed to offer a more targeted treatment option for people with type 2 diabetes and those requiring long-term weight management. In clinical studies involving Chinese patients, the therapy showed a placebo-adjusted weight loss of 15.1%. Around 92.8% of patients achieved clinically meaningful weight loss, and more than 80% reached HbA1c levels below 7.0%.

The product received approval from the National Medical Products Administration in January 2026 for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes. Its marketing authorisation application for chronic weight management in adults has also been accepted for review.

The partnership supports Pfizer’s wider strategy to expand its presence in the metabolic disease field in China. It follows Pfizer’s recent acquisition of Metsera and its global exclusive collaboration and licensing agreement with YaoPharma.

The collaboration aims to accelerate the availability of Ecnoglutide in China, where obesity rates among adults continue to rise and are closely linked to metabolic disorders. The initiative also aligns with national efforts to promote healthy weight management and improve long-term metabolic health outcomes.
