SK Bioscience Introduces South Korea’s Inaugural AI-Driven Experiment Design System
Friday, June 21, 2024
SK Bioscience is pioneering vaccine development through advanced AI technology. Their new IT system, 'ADO (AI based Design space Optimization System)', represents a major advancement in South Korea's pharmaceutical industry. Developed in collaboration with DX Lab, dedicated to AI and digital transformation within SK Discovery Group, ADO aims to streamline vaccine R&D.
ADO is notable for its ability to enhance accuracy by using AI to predict complex variables in experimental design, traditionally challenging for researchers. This significantly reduces experiments needed, shortening vaccine development timelines and lowering costs.
In a recent proof-of-concept focused on protein conjugation in bacterial vaccines, ADO cut the experimental design period by one-third. This is crucial for protein conjugate vaccines, where optimizing processes is difficult due to diverse pathogens and binding conditions.
Previously, SK Bioscience achieved acclaim with 'SkyCovid One', the world's first COVID-19 vaccine using advanced computer-aided protein design, showcasing their technology integration.
Looking ahead, SK Bioscience plans to expand ADO beyond protein conjugation, aiming to enhance efficiency across various processes. This move could shorten production periods and improve vaccine yields, solidifying market dominance.
Hwang Jae-seon, head of SK Bioscience’s Digital Innovation Department, emphasizes their approach: "We are embedding advanced AI systems across all operations, from R&D to production, for global competitiveness."
Supported by DX Lab, SK Discovery Group drives innovation in affiliates, using generative AI for safety evaluation at SK Chemicals. SK Bioscience's pioneering AI in vaccine development promises cost savings and efficiency gains, securing a leading role in the global market.
