Starpharma Enters into Collaboration and Agreement with Genentech for Cancer Therapy Development
Tuesday, September 23, 2025
Starpharma has entered into a collaboration and licence agreement with Genentech to develop cancer therapies using Starpharma’s DEP® drug delivery technology.
Under the terms of the agreement, Starpharma will receive an upfront payment of USD 5.5 million (around AUD 8.3 million) and is eligible for development, commercial and net sales milestone payments of up to USD 564 million (around AUD 855 million). The company will also receive tiered royalties on global net sales of products developed through the partnership.
The collaboration will use Starpharma’s DEP® platform to create dendrimer-drug conjugates that combine Genentech medicines with specific oncology targets. Genentech will have exclusive worldwide rights to develop and commercialise any resulting products, which may include multiple therapies for each target.
Starpharma’s DEP® technology is designed to improve solubility, efficacy, pharmacokinetic control, and toxicity profiles in drug development. It can be applied to a wide range of drug types, including small molecules, peptides, proteins, chemotherapeutics, radiotheranostics, and antibody-drug conjugates. These benefits offer opportunities to enhance treatment options and expand therapeutic applications.
The agreement builds on three years of research collaboration between Starpharma and Genentech.
It supports Starpharma’s strategy of forming high-impact partnerships to expand the use of its DEP® platform and provide improved treatment solutions for patients worldwide.
