Syngene International extends research partnership with Bristol Myers Squibb to 2035

Syngene International has extended its long-term research collaboration with Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) through to 2035.
The renewed agreement strengthens an established partnership and expands the scope of integrated services across the full drug development lifecycle.
Under the extended collaboration, Syngene will continue to support BMS across discovery, translational sciences, pharmaceutical development, manufacturing, clinical trials, and data and IT services. This integrated approach is designed to enable smoother progression of programmes from early research through to commercialisation, while supporting future capability and infrastructure planning over the long term.
The partnership between the two companies began in 1998 and led to the creation of the Biocon Bristol Myers Squibb Research and Development Center (BBRC), Syngene’s first dedicated R&D centre, which became fully operational in 2009. Since then, BBRC has developed into a key strategic R&D site for BMS.
Today, the centre is home to around 700 Syngene scientists working closely with BMS teams. It supports a wide range of activities, including target identification, lead discovery and optimisation, pharmaceutical development, molecular and cell biology, protein sciences, assay biology, and clinical biomarker research. The work spans several therapeutic areas, such as cardiovascular disease, fibrosis, immunology, and oncology.
Over the years, BBRC has contributed to advancing multiple compounds from early discovery to first-in-human studies. This has helped shorten development timelines, reduce overall costs, and support patent generation for Bristol Myers Squibb.
The extended agreement marks the next phase of growth in the relationship, reinforcing Syngene’s role as a strategic partner providing end-to-end scientific and manufacturing solutions to support the development of new medicines for patients worldwide.
