Telix Opens Australia's First Integrated Radiopharmaceutical Facility in Melbourne

Thursday, July 16, 2026

Telix has officially opened a new multi-million-dollar radiopharmaceutical research, manufacturing and treatment facility in Melbourne to strengthen Australia's capabilities in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The purpose-built facility, Telix Manufacturing Solutions North Melbourne (TMSNM), combines radiochemistry laboratories, clinical product manufacturing, patient dose administration and medical imaging at a single site. It is the first facility of its kind in Australia to integrate these capabilities in one location.

The new centre is designed to increase manufacturing capacity for radiopharmaceuticals and enable treatment doses to be produced closer to patients. It will also connect research, clinical trials and patient treatment, helping to shorten the time required to move new therapies from early-stage development to wider clinical use.

Clinical care and research at the facility will be delivered through the Melbourne Theranostic Innovation Centre (MTIC), led by Professor Rod Hicks. The collaboration between Telix and MTIC will support Telix-sponsored studies, investigator-led clinical trials and selected third-party research programmes.

The facility is expected to strengthen Australia's domestic manufacturing capability for radiopharmaceuticals while supporting the development of specialised expertise in the growing field of nuclear medicine.

Radiopharmaceuticals are increasingly being used in cancer care because they can identify tumours through medical imaging and deliver targeted radiation directly to cancer cells. The technology is becoming an important treatment approach alongside surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapies and immunotherapy.

In addition to supporting research and patient care, TMSNM will provide training in nuclear medicine, radiochemistry, engineering and clinical research, helping to develop the skilled workforce needed for Australia's healthcare and life sciences sectors.
