Twist Bioscience and bitBiome Partner to Create Innovative Enzymes for Cutting-Edge Biocatalysis
Monday, August 05, 2024
Twist Bioscience Corporation, renowned for its advanced synthetic DNA technology, and bitBiome Inc., a biotech company specializing in leveraging microbial diversity for the bioeconomy, have unveiled their collaborative Transaminase Enzyme Screening Kit. This innovative kit includes forty-eight diverse transaminase enzymes, designed for screening and evaluation in laboratory settings.
Transaminase enzymes are crucial for transferring amine groups from donors and are increasingly recognized as a sustainable method for synthesizing chiral amines—essential components in pharmaceuticals. This method offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional chemical synthesis.
The new kit is the result of combining Twist Bioscience’s large-scale DNA synthesis capabilities with bitBiome’s extensive bit-GEM database, which houses over two billion microbial sequences. This collaboration provides a valuable tool for pharmaceutical labs and companies to efficiently utilize enzymes in biocatalysis, offering a greener option compared to conventional chemical synthesis for producing small molecule pharmaceuticals and other critical ingredients.
Yuji Suzuki, CEO of bitBiome, remarked, “Partnering with Twist Bioscience allows us to bring our extensive sequence database to both the biocatalysis and broader biomanufacturing sectors. Our diverse, proprietary sequences, combined with Twist’s advanced DNA synthesis technology, promises to deliver innovative solutions to the industry.”
Twist Bioscience, added, “Our collaboration with bitBiome enables us to offer a unique solution for enzyme engineering and biocatalysis. This screening kit enhances our ability to quickly deliver valuable sequences and supports customers in discovering new enzymes and proteins, bridging our strengths in DNA synthesis with bitBiome’s extensive microbial database.”
