WuXi Biologics Enters into Agreement with Candid Therapeutics for Trispecific T-cell Engager

WuXi Biologics has entered into an agreement with Candid Therapeutics for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

The agreement grants Candid Therapeutics exclusive global rights to a preclinical trispecific T-cell engager developed using WuXi Biologics’ WuXiBody™ platform, which is designed to create multispecific antibodies. 

WuXi Biologics will receive an upfront payment and is eligible for development and sales milestone payments of up to $925 million, along with royalties.

This collaboration highlights the capabilities of the WuXiBody™ platform, which has been instrumental in advancing multispecific antibody discovery and development. 

WuXi Biologics has reported enabling seven global programmes through its research platform in 2024, with near-term payments projected to reach USD 140 million and a total potential of over USD 2.3 billion.

Candid Therapeutics plans to use this transaction to strengthen its position in developing T-cell engagers targeting BCMA, CD20, and CD19 for treating autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. 

With this partnership, the company now has three trispecific T-cell engager programmes progressing towards or already in clinical development.

The WuXiBody™ platform, originally developed for bispecific antibodies, has been upgraded to accommodate the increasing global demand for complex multispecific molecules. 

This platform addresses several challenges associated with antibody development, such as low production yield, stability issues, and manufacturing inefficiencies. WuXiBody™ enables faster discovery and development, reduces costs, and offers structural flexibility to create customised multispecific formats. 

These features help ensure scalability, lower immunogenicity risks, and improved half-life, contributing to its wide adoption.

The partnership aims to deliver innovative therapies to meet unmet medical needs, benefiting patients globally.
