WuXi Biologics Enters into Partnership with HanchorBio to Develop Next-Generation Fusion Proteins

Tuesday, January 27, 2026

WuXi Biologics has entered a strategic collaboration with HanchorBio.

The partnership aims to advance multiple bi- and multi-functional fusion protein programmes from HanchorBio’s pipeline.

Under the agreement, WuXi Biologics will provide comprehensive biologics development and manufacturing services. These services include cell line development, process and bioassay development, drug product formulation, and GMP manufacturing. The collaboration is intended to improve chemistry, manufacturing, and controls (CMC) efficiency, speed up clinical translation, and support scalable global production of HanchorBio’s fusion protein portfolio, which is based on its Fc-Based Designer Biologics (FBDB™) platform.

The partnership aligns with HanchorBio’s strategy to accelerate the development of its platform-derived pipelines while maintaining manufacturing robustness and cost efficiency from early clinical stages to commercialisation. WuXi Biologics’ expertise in complex biologics and global quality systems is expected to shorten development timelines and offer flexibility across multiple clinical programmes.

WuXi Biologics has significant experience with complex modalities such as bispecific and multi-specific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and fusion proteins. By 2025, the company had 945 projects on its integrated platform, with around 60% focused on bi- and multi-specific antibodies, ADCs, and fusion proteins, highlighting its record in supporting advanced therapeutic development. Proprietary platforms, including WuXia™ TrueSite for targeted CHO cell line integration and WuXiHigh™ for high-throughput formulation development, are designed to enhance speed, quality, and scalability.

For HanchorBio, the collaboration supports the expansion of its FBDB™ technology, which enables the design of multi-functional fusion proteins targeting both innate and adaptive immunity.

The partnership represents a step towards combining discovery innovation with industrial-scale, globally compliant development as HanchorBio advances its oncology and autoimmune programmes.
