Xcell Biosciences Enters into Partnership with Thermo Fisher Scientific to Advance Cell Therapy Research

Wednesday, June 25, 2025

Xcell Biosciences has entered into a research collaboration with Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The partnership aims to support the development of new cell therapies, particularly those involving regulatory T cells (Tregs) and tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs).

While CAR T-cell therapies have made notable progress in recent years, Tregs and TILs are emerging as promising approaches for treating autoimmune diseases and solid tumours. Solid tumours account for around 90 per cent of adult cancers, and the growing number of autoimmune conditions globally highlights the need for further innovation in this area.

The joint initiative will focus on improving the effectiveness of Treg and TIL-based treatments. Efforts will also be made to enhance the scalability and reliability of cell therapy manufacturing, with the goal of making such treatments more widely accessible to patients.

The collaboration brings together Xcellbio’s AVATAR™ manufacturing platform and Thermo Fisher’s range of technologies, including its Gibco™ CTS™ Detachable Dynabeads™, DynaCellect™ Magnetic Separation System, and Rotea Counterflow Centrifugation System. Together, the companies intend to simplify workflows and reduce production times in cell therapy development.

Thermo Fisher has played a key role in supporting the manufacturing of most approved cell therapies to date.

Through this new partnership, both organisations aim to drive further progress in the field and contribute to improved patient outcomes.
