Ebola drug, ZMapp’s First Human Experiment begins in Liberia and US

The clinical trial of ZMapp, a new Ebola drug, will begin in Liberia and the United States.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) collaborate with Liberian government in order to determine effectiveness of the drug.

A few weeks ago, the pharmaceutical group has already tried the drug on nine Ebola patients, including two US doctors.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the NIAID, informs that drug has unofficially passed the trial phase. However, the current experiment will provide scientific evidence regarding its safety and efficiency.

Additionally, Fauci notify that the trial will show whether the drug can be utilized in current Ebola outbreak or not. If the drug turns out effective, it will be included in standard treatment of the lethal disease.

As per the concern health authorities, the ZMapp trial will carry out on Ebola patients that are presently admitted in Ebola Treatment Center of Liberia. Health experts will offer high standard care to all the participants. The enrolled participants would be given three doses of ZMapp. Later on, researchers will follow them for a long time period.

U.S Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority has provided funds for the development of ZMapp.

The experiment would probably end in the month of December.
