AveXis to Expand its Manufacturing Center in Durham County with US$ 60 million

Introduction:

AveXis is planning to expand its manufacturing center in Durham County, North Carolina, with an additional investment of US$60 million.

Features:

The facility will bring gene therapies to patients suffering from devastating rare neurological genetic diseases such as SMA, genetic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Rett syndrome.

The manufacturing center will allow manufacturing multiple gene therapies simultaneously.

The major objective of expanding the facility is to bring gene therapies to patients suffering from devastating rare neurological genetic diseases, such as SMA, genetic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Rett syndrome.

The expansion of the facility will allow manufacturing multiple gene therapies simultaneously.

Nearly 200 additional jobs will be created, as part of the expansion. It will create new positions adding scientists, engineers, analysts, manufacturing and operations personnel.

Gene therapy presents unique manufacturing challenges and requires production of the viral vectors required to deliver the treatments.

AveXis utilizes an adeno-associated vector 9 platform for delivery.
