BD Opens New Manufacturing Facility in Spain

Introduction:

BD plans to invest US$194million (€165 million) to open new manufacturing facilities in Zaragoza, Spain. The new facility will support the growth of pre-filled drug delivery business.

Features:

The new project will be the fourth manufacturing site, all set to start its construction in late 2021. It produces drug delivery devices mainly for pharma companies who supply drugs in pre-fillable syringes such as vaccines and other biologic drugs.

The new site constructed with an area covering of 30,000 square meters is expected to employ 600 people whereas the current manufacturing site covering an area of 8,000 square meters (86,000 square feet)consists of a workforce of 150 people.

Moreover, the new facility laid with latest intelligent and autonomous technologieswill be the fully digital sitemeeting all thehigh sustainability and eco-efficiency standards.

It will also add needed capacity to support the major vaccination campaigns, currently taking place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new facility is expected to start its operation in 2030 and add additional 600 jobs.
