Shenzhen Beike Biotechnology Co., Ltd announced that it has commenced the construction of a medical stem cell facility in the China for the storage and processing of human stem cell samples for clinical applications.
The Jiangsu Stem Cell Storage Facility is to be developed in a 21,500 square foot area adjacent to the Jiangsu Beiki Biotechnology office building in the Taizhou City located in Jiangsu province, China.
Once completed, the facility will provide appropriate technology and safe conditions for the proper freezing, storing and processing of a broad spectrum of human stem cell samples for clinical application. Initially, it will provide stem cell banking facility for human umbilical cord blood stem cells, placenta stem cells, amniotic membrane stem cells among others and at a later stage would also be home to induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS). Initially the focus would remain primarily on private banking of stem cells by individuals. However, in the long run, when the number of samples increases, the facility plans to concentrate on public banking for medical facilities so that Beike can supply stem cells to transplant patients across the globe.
A new, state-of-the-art laboratory spread across ten thousand square feet of the Stem Cell Storage Facility will be producing stem cells which would be supplied to the major hospitals Jiangsu Province and greater Shanghai regions. The stem cell storage facility which is scheduled for completion in the end of 2008 plans for the entire facility to be able to ultimately host approximately 100,000 stem cell samples.
