CSL to Invest US$1.5 Billion in Illinois, USA

CSL has announced an investment of US$1.5 billion to expand its plasma-derived therapies manufacturing facility in Kankakee, Illinois, USA.

The project involves the expansion and modernisation of an existing plasma-derived therapies manufacturing facility to increase the production of medicines used in the treatment of rare diseases and other serious medical conditions.
The upgraded facility is designed to improve production efficiency, optimise plasma utilisation and enhance the manufacturing of plasma-derived therapies while maintaining stringent quality and regulatory standards.
The expansion will increase the availability of plasma-derived therapies for patients with conditions such as primary immunodeficiency, haemophilia, hereditary angioedema and other rare disorders. It will also support the production of therapies used in emergency and critical care, including trauma, severe burns, shock and certain maternal health conditions.
The project is expected to improve manufacturing resilience, support a more reliable supply of plasma-derived medicines, and expand advanced biologics production to meet growing healthcare needs. Construction is underway, with the upgraded facility expected to become operational by 2031.
