ESTEVE CDMO to Invest US$15.5 Million in Illinois, USA

Introduction:

ESTEVE CDMO has announced an investment of US$15.5 million to expand and upgrade its small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing facility in Morton Grove, Illinois, USA.

Features:

The project involves the expansion and modernisation of a small molecule API manufacturing facility to improve pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. The scope includes upgrades to reactor systems, the installation of powder transfer systems and additional distillation tanks to improve production processes.

The upgraded facility features improvements to thermal management through jacket insulation and a single thermal fluid circuit. These modifications extend the reactors' operating temperature range from -15°C to +140°C, providing greater operational flexibility and simplifying validation under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements.

The project also includes upgrades to cleanroom infrastructure and supporting utilities. A Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system provides real-time monitoring, process control and data recording, while uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems ensure uninterrupted operation of quality control laboratories.

The facility will support process research and development, analytical and stability testing, current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) API manufacturing, and chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC) activities for pharmaceutical development and commercial production.

Construction is scheduled for completion in 2026.
