Orano Moed Invests US$262.7 million (€250 mn) for New Production Facility in USA

Introduction:

Orano Moed is set to invest US$262.7 million (€250 million) in a new Advanced Thorium Extraction Facility (ATEF) in the USA.

Features:

The ATEF facility will mainly focus on producing thorium-228, a precursor of lead-212, for radioligand therapies.

Spanning over 7,000 square meters, the facility, scheduled to start operations in 2027, will boost LMT’s production capacity tenfold. This new investment is projected to generate approximately 70 direct jobs and 100 indirect jobs.

The construction of the ATEF facility represents a key milestone in expanding its presence in the region. This investment not only enhances capabilities in the radiopharmaceutical sector but also contributes to the industrial and economic revitalisation of the country.

Furthermore, the project supports mission to maximise the value of nuclear materials, central to the group’s expertise.

Lead-212 targeted alpha therapy combines the ability of biological molecules to target cancer cells with the cell-killing potential of alpha emissions generated by lead-212.
