PharmaEssentia has announced an investment of approximately US$46 million to establish a new manufacturing facility in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, USA.

The project involves the construction of a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, for the production of ropeginterferon alfa-2b.
The development includes the construction of manufacturing areas, installation of pharmaceutical production equipment, process systems, quality control laboratories, utilities and supporting infrastructure required for biologics manufacturing.
The facility will operate alongside an existing manufacturing site in Taiwan. The project includes technology transfer activities and personnel training to support the implementation of manufacturing processes at the Puerto Rico facility.
The scope of the project also includes the implementation of manufacturing processes, quality assurance systems, process validation, and regulatory compliance activities required before commercial manufacturing begins. The facility will be developed with controlled manufacturing environments and supporting infrastructure for biologics production.
Construction is underway, with manufacturing operations expected to commence in 2027.
