Pahang Technology Resources Sdn Bhd (PTR) a Malaysian government unit has decided to team up with BCRO Stem Cell Xenotransplantation Sdn Bhd to jointly build a new stem cell manufacturing plant.
The stem cell manufacturing plant will be located on 300 acres of land in Janda Baik, Pahang, Malayasia.
The initial phase of development of the plant would be around RM280 million and further funds would be required as the plant approaches completion and commercialisation.
BRCO will provide the funds and the technical expertise to build the manufacturing plant while PTR will be responsible for providing the land. The plant would take about three years to reach full operational stage and it is aimed to be completed in 2011. The Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the two companies on the 28th of January 2008. As part of the manufacturing process, fetal stem cells would be collected from farmed rabbits and would be worked upon to treat various human diseases.
