Sharp Services to Invest US$23.3 million (€20 Million) to Expand Injectables Packaging Capacity in Europe

Introduction:

Sharp Services is investing over US$23.3 million (€20 Million) to expand injectables packaging capacity at its European facilities in Hamont-Achel, Belgium, and Heerenveen, The Netherlands.

Features:

The expansion will increase assembly, labelling, packaging, and cold storage capabilities for a variety of injectable formats at both European facilities.

New capabilities will be added for the assembly, labelling, packaging, and cold storage of autoinjectors, pen devices, pre-filled syringes, and vials.

The Belgian facility will quadruple cold-chain warehouse space, double ambient storage, and include a new syringe assembly and blister packaging suite.

Collaborative robot (Cobot) technology will be introduced to improve production efficiency for pre-filled syringe and autoinjector packaging lines.

A carport solar system at the Belgian site will provide renewable energy, expected to supply 50% of electricity demand once fully operational in mid-2026.

The Netherlands facility will expand GMP production capacity, including two Grade D packaging suites, supporting new syringe assembly, vial packaging, and packaging programs.

The expansion is expected to be operational in 2026 and will support clinical and commercial injectable product packaging.
