Thermo Fisher Scientific Expands its Viral Vectors Facility in US

Thermo Fisher Scientific has unveiled the US$6million expansion of its gene therapy and viral vector services site in Alachua, Florida.

The expansion is part of the company's US$270 million investment to expand its capabilities and capacity to support its customers.

Moreover, it will also double the site's laboratory and warehousing therapy capabilities for upstream process development and quality control testing of gene therapy products at the site.

The quality control expansion has already been completed and the mechanical completion of process development expansion started in November.

Thermo Fisher is also starting construction of the 16,000 square foot double-bay warehouse space, with additional neighboring space available for future growth to enable the growth of its Alachua site.

The build-out will incorporate the utilities and design for good manufacturing practice (GMP) warehousing, and it is expected to be completed in 2020.
